We are excited to announce the release of product updates for the Field Interviewer and Interview Room Field Interviewer. StarWitness Interviewer and StarWitness Field Interviewer 2.5 includes the following new features:
YOUR QUARTERLY PRO TIP - Backing up your data
Many customers know that StarWitness Interviewer has redundant hard drives but think that this redundancy provides adequate backup of their interview data. There is a difference between redundancy and backup and a good backup strategy will provide long term protection of your data while redundancy will provide less downtime in the case of a hard drive failure. Redundancy StarWitness Interview room systems are equipped with two hard drives configured in a RAID 1 mirrored configuration. This means that data written to the system is written to both hard drives at the same time providing data redundancy and continued system uptime. If one of the hard drives fails for some reason, the system will continue to work with the functioning hard drive until the faulty hard drive can be replaced. When a new hard drive is installed the system will rebuild the mirror by copying the data from the hard drive that didn’t fail to the new hard drive. After that the system will start writing data to both hard drives again. It is important to monitor the health of the RAID volume on the system using the Intel Optane Memory and Rapid Storage application installed on the system. If it appears that one drive has failed that a new be obtained and installed as soon as possible. Backup Backup is a process which copies data from the StarWitness Interviewer system to a separate storage system, oftentimes at a different location. Backing up data provides data security in case of accidental data deletion, or the system is damaged due to a natural disaster, or a facilities failure such as a broken water pipe. Data saved offsite can be restored to a new system and retrieved normally without having to resort to data recovery techniques. Signalscape recommends that you periodically backup your data to prevent data loss using one or more of several methods. Backing up data weekly along with burning DVDs of recordings would be a good backup strategy. Backup methods Export to DVD The easiest way to make backups is to create a DVD export of a recording. The DVD can then be stored in your agency’s evidence locker with other case evidence. Export to File Using the export to file capability individual recordings can be copied to a thumb drive, an external hard drive or even a network share. Upload to Cloud Using the new Axon Evidence.com and Microsoft OneDrive/SharePoint integration, recordings can be uploaded up to the cloud providing an off-site backup of your recordings. Manual backup to external hard drive The data directories and database files can be backed up to one or more external hard drives. These hard drives can be stored in a secure location for later data retrieval. A good backup strategy may involve several external hard drives that are rotated through use. Whenever a backup is made to one external hard drive, that hard drive is taken and stored offsite and a hard drive drive in storage is brought back to the primary location to used for the next backup. Contact Signalscape technical support for more information. Configure backups using enterprise backup software If your StarWitness Interviewer system is connected to your agency’s enterprise network, your IT department can configure its enterprise backup system to backup the video data directory and database files. CARY, North Carolina — January 21, 2022 — Signalscape™, a leader in public safety and government technologies, announces the launch of its StarWitness Field Interviewer HD. The big idea: This portable device delivers high-quality recordings of interviews in any scenario. It's a comprehensive digital interview solution that lets you start recording in seconds, excels in all kinds of environments, and provides end-to-end evidence security and authentication. The Field Interviewer HD is:
Comprehensive video: From a small, noisy room with poor lighting to a large conference room filled with interview subjects, the Field Interviewer HD doesn't miss. It records a full HD video from two cameras, focusing on close-ups and recording group dynamics during the interview. Amazing audio: The audio quality is phenomenal—the internal microphones of the recorder capture accurate speech recordings, including muffled speech and whispers. External microphones provide even more options for additional coverage and noise reduction. "The Field Interviewer HD culminates many years of conversations with law enforcement; we listened, designed, produced, and are now excited to deploy the Field Interviewer HD. This is a big innovation. We've loaded so much technology and capability into such a portable, rugged package," said Sam Burgiss, Starwitness Director of Products. StarWitness is excited to announce the release of FreezeFrame UHD. This release of FreezeFrame UHD automatically analyzes and detects motion in surveillance videos.
Save Time No more scrolling through hours of video footage, this software does the work for you. “FreezeFrame UHD scans the video, detects where motion occurs, and then creates a bookmark for playback,” states Sam Burgiss, Director of Products for StarWitness. “We designed this feature to be robust and simple to use. Investigators import the video, select motion criteria, and automatically all motion is identified,” explained Mr. Burgiss. After the software analyzes the video, the end result is a compilation containing time-stamped clips of only the motion events that are needed for the case. These clips are easily exported for presentation in court. Non-Proprietary Import and Export Options FreezeFrame UHD works with any type of video including videos from CCTV systems, videos from smartphones, videos from covert cameras, and videos captured from the Internet. When the analysis is completed, export to non-proprietary formats for easy sharing, archiving, etc. FreezeFrame UHD, version 2.0 is available now. A Child Advocacy Center (CAC) in Harrison, Michigan is taking their mission of seeking justice for every child to the streets. The devoted multidisciplinary team is hitting the road in the form of a Mobile Child Advocacy vehicle to give access to all victims of child abuse in Missaukee County. On Monday, December 12th, the North Michigan CAC revealed its new building along with a new mobile branch. A new 40 foot Fleetwood Bounder motor coach with all the equipment needed for forensic interviewing, delivering the quality, professionalism, and sanctuary of a safe home environment to the doors of family crime victims.
Child Advocacy Executive Director Bethany Law, hopes that the new forensic mobile vehicle will give solace that many victims desperately need but have no access to, “In the future, NMMCAC hopes to expand the reach of the mobile unit to reach more rural, underserved counties in Michigan which lack reliable, consistent access to services of their own.” These non-profit centers try to limit the traumatic interviewing experience for a child victim by working collaboratively with individuals from both the social, medical, and law enforcement fields. By providing a warm and caring space, Law believes that the most effective interviewing can take place, “This is where a structured, unbiased, developmentally appropriate and non-leading conversation is had between the child and our forensic interview specialist. All interviews are audio and video recorded to protect the integrity of the interview and to aid in future litigation, should there be any.” The new mobile CAC unit will expedition around Missaukee county, Michigan starting January 1st To read more about this story, click here.
