"Our first experience with StarWitness Field Interviewer was on scene of an investigation into the exploitation of children. During that investigation, a neighboring county provided a Field Interviewer that was used during an interview I conducted with the suspect. The interview was conducted in a patrol vehicle and I was advised that the camera was recording and all I needed to do was conduct the interview. Not knowing the full extent of the system, I took a chance in breaking rapport with the suspect and stepped out of the car to inform the other Investigators what he had said. It was then that I learned of the external viewing capabilities made possible through a tablet and the wireless connection with the Field Interviewer.

Coming back to our Agency, we fought hard and requested to purchase a unit. Graciously, our prior administration allowed us and we received our first Field Interviewer. Literally the first week we received the device, it was utilized on numerous occasions during an ongoing homicide investigation. Specifically, one of the suspects in the case refused to meet Detectives anywhere but in a parking lot in a neighboring county. Prior to having the Field Interviewer, this would have been difficult to facilitate because we had no simple way to record these interviews. However, the Field Interviewer was utilized during three different interviews that led to a confession of the suspect’s involvement in the homicide.

Since this first instance, we have utilized the Field Interviewer over 50 times in other investigations. These interviews have been conducted in other states, in our own detention center and even on scene of investigations where witnesses were willing to cooperate, but did not wish to leave their family on the scene. Since the initial purchase, our Agency has purchased additional units that have allowed us to assure a Field Interviewers availability no matter the situation, time or reason."
