A Michigan Child Advocacy Center goes Mobile

12/19/2016

A Child Advocacy Center (CAC) in Harrison, Michigan is taking their mission of seeking justice for every child to the streets. The devoted multidisciplinary team is hitting the road in the form of a Mobile Child Advocacy vehicle to give access to all victims of child abuse in Missaukee County.

On Monday, December 12th, the North Michigan CAC revealed its new building along with a new mobile branch. A new 40 foot Fleetwood Bounder motor coach with all the equipment needed for forensic interviewing, delivering the quality, professionalism, and sanctuary of  a safe home environment to the doors of family crime victims.

Child Advocacy Executive Director Bethany Law, hopes that the new forensic mobile vehicle will give solace that many victims desperately need but have no access to, “In the future, NMMCAC hopes to expand the reach of the mobile unit to reach more rural, underserved counties in Michigan which lack reliable, consistent access to services of their own.”

These non-profit centers try to limit the traumatic interviewing experience for a child victim by working collaboratively with individuals from both the social, medical, and law enforcement fields. By providing a warm and caring space, Law believes that the most effective interviewing can take place, “This is where a structured, unbiased, developmentally appropriate and non-leading conversation is had between the child and our forensic interview specialist.  All interviews are audio and video recorded to protect the integrity of the interview and to aid in future litigation, should there be any.”

The new mobile CAC unit will expedition around Missaukee county, Michigan starting January 1st
